The new year is in full swing, and as the days get longer and the weather gets warmer, it seems like life gets a little bit busier. It may seem impossible, but whipping up a home-cooked meal is one DIY task you can and should tackle. For dinner in less time—and for less money—than ordering takeout, here are a few of our favorite weeknight dinners that are easy to make and easy to love. Hamburger Pie

This savory dish from Better Homes and Gardens is family-friendly and super fast. It starts with store-bought, refrigerated mashed potatoes, and features ground beef and Cheddar cheese, plus kitchen pantry cabinet staples like canned tomato soup, green beans, and basic seasonings from your spice drawer. Baked Ziti

Who doesn’t love a pasta casserole topped with melted Mozzarella cheese? Instead of spending time making a homemade lasagna, give this quick and easy weeknight meal a try. Grab a jar of marinara from your kitchen pantry cabinet and boil up some Ziti according to package directions. If you can’t find a box of Ziti, you can use whatever macaroni you have, from Penne to Rigatoni. Then follow this easy and inexpensive recipe from Spend with Pennies. Serve Baked Ziti with a salad and homemade garlic bread. Don’t worry if you don’t have fresh garlic. Chicken Fried Rice

Rice is a kitchen pantry cabinet staple, and is a great base for an easy weeknight dinner with ingredients you already have on hand. This tasty dish is perfect for leftover rice, or make it fresh on the stovetop. Feel free to swap out the chicken for shrimp or pineapple, and add more veggies, like broccoli, asparagus, peppers, or mushrooms. Why Grey Shaker Cabinets?

Grey has taken over the interior design world! The neutral color works just as well in sleek, modern homes as it does in rustic farmhouse spaces. Grey can come in a variety of tones, making it a truly versatile color. Shaker-style cabinets are also known for their versatility, which makes the two a perfect pair. Depending on your personal style, your gray shaker cabinets can work with different backsplash designs, countertops or appliances. Finding the Right Color 

Light Grey

Silver hardware is the most common with grey cabinets as it can look sleek and refined. Nickel, chrome and stainless steel also provide that metallic detail that can pop against your cabinets. Cool or Warm Undertones

The type of hardware you choose will also depend on the undertones of your grey cabinets. Some greys pull warm, with an almost beige or taupe quality to them, while others are cool-toned with a hint of blue or slate. Warm-toned greys will work better with gold hardware, while cooler greys are more suited to silver. If you’re unsure whether your grey pulls more warm or cool, bring a paint sample to the store when you’re shopping for hardware. Picking the Best Shape

Knobs

The yearly celebration of Modernism in Palm Springs has become quite a bit event. Modernism Week’s festival took place February 13-23, 2020 and highlighted midcentury modern architecture, art, interior and landscape design, and vintage culture in the Palm Springs area of Southern California. 

We went to take in some of the home tours and see the architecture and design ideas that are the top of the trends for 2020. Here are a few of our favorite moments from the Palm Springs adventure.

Mesa Modern Living Room & Dining Space This dining space features dramatic black tile and pops of color in the future along with the abstract custom light fixture above the dining room table.

Modernism Week Featured Home Tour:

Midcentury modern in Palm Springs was transformed into a contemporary architecture and design at the Mesa Modern, a featured design house in collaboration with interior designer Michelle Boudreau, landscape architect John Feldman of Ecocentrix and the design team of Juniper House, that gains its inspiration from a global perspective on art, architecture, and interior and landscape design.

The city’s new design movement is represented in this newly-constructed home that emphasizes outstanding architecture and stunning outdoor spaces at the base of the beautiful San Jacinto mountains.

Highlighting unique international and local artists, artisans and talent as well as brands such as Ferguson, Brizo, JennAir, Corian, Hunter Douglas and Dunn-Edwards this home celebrates the quintessential desert lifestyle of relaxed living. Come explore this extraordinary indoor|outdoor masterpiece.

 

The home was spectacular and didn’t disappoint when it came to the casita out back.

   

Modernism flippers Thomboy Properties added some wonderful details to this next home in Palm Springs that they will be putting up for sale in the near future.

The design process is one of the most critical steps in a kitchen renovation. There any many factors to consider, such as the floor plan, electrical and mechanical placement, product selection and appliance location. It can be an overwhelming task when tackled alone, but, by working with a professional designer, we can simplify and streamline the process for you. Below is an example of a portion of our full service design plans for a clients kitchen remodel. This kitchen is Coming in the Spring of 2020

THE PROCESS

STEP 1: Design Goal Analysis

Are you looking for an aesthetically pleasing and functional kitchen? OR Are you looking for a stunning distinctive and functional kitchen? . This can really help start the conversation and lead the kitchen designer down the right path.

The purpose of the design analysis is for the designer to understand your end goals for your kitchen renovation. It’s an in-depth conversation that delves deeply into your likes, dislikes, needs and desires, and opens the discussion to ideas and possibilities for your kitchen remodel.

For this initial meeting, you can expect it to take one to two hours and there may even be homework for you to complete, like creating an idea book or completing a design questionnaire. This first step is critical for a successful kitchen renovation because it sets a solid foundation for a great kitchen remodel.

STEP 2: Conceptual Design

After your needs assessment with your designer, you’ll be presented with concept layouts for your kitchen project. Each design alternative will incorporate your must-have wants and will include floor plans, elevations and concept 3D renderings to help you in your decision.

This is an exciting step in the design process because this is when your vision starts to come to life. What was once an idea or dream, is now a possibility! By looking at the drawings, you will be able to visualize what your cabinetry will look like, where your appliances will be installed and even where your cooking utensils, dishware and pots and pans will go.

 

STEP 3: Design Refinements

Once you have chosen your kitchen concept, you’ll meet with your designer once again to review the design and discuss any potential changes that you wish to make. This is the perfect chance to refine any details that require additional tweaks and to ensure that you are happy with all aspects of your renovated kitchen.

From here, you can expect to receive final revisions on your preferred design concept, as well as an electrical plan for your new kitchen.

STEP 4: Product Selection

This is the fun and final part of the design stage – you get to go shopping for materials for your soon-to-be new kitchen! Whether you visit a design centre or customized individual supplier, this is your chance to touch, see and experience a range of cabinets, countertops, flooring, tile and other fixtures.

This process shouldn’t be rushed, as you want to make the best product selections to suit your needs for the long-term enjoyment of your kitchen. You should budget yourself one to two weeks to make all of your final product selections.

 What’s Next?

Once your design and product selections have been finalized, the process shifts towards the quoting,this happens prior to the building phases– all equally exciting milestones within the renovation process. This is where your kitchen’s design comes to fruition; when your diligent work and time spent carefully planning out your new space comes to life.
